此佛傳浮雕屬犍陀羅作品之一。事見《佛本行集經》卷十一〈習學技藝品〉，悉達多太子在八至十二歲期間曾與釋迦族五百童子一起從婆羅門毗奢蜜多羅（Visvamitra）學習文藝，隨羼提提婆（Ksantideva）學習武技，樣樣通達無礙，出類拔萃，令老師們驚歎不已。此圖即刻劃太子與伴讀的五百童子一起上學的情景。
太子帶頭光，乘坐於二牡羊所拉的車。二頭牡羊並轡同行，羊毛刻劃細密。車伕於太子前方拉著韁繩駕馭。車旁圍繞一併同行的童子，上方四人，車前一人，太子與馭者之間一人，圖僅刻出代表性的六位，象徵五百童子。童子們右手皆拿著寫字的板書，左手持裝有墨水的容器。太子背後刻一大樹，樹下立一僧人向太子合掌行禮。
