此圖為金農繪《人物山水圖冊》十二開中的第一開。繪佛坐於三棵參差的大樹下，作枯瘦老者狀；長眉下垂，袒上身，體型消瘦，肋骨清晰可數，右腿盤屈，左腿支起，雙手置左膝上，下著白色裙褲，小腿及腳皆露於外側。
此圖以白描為主，畫家強調線條的表現力，試圖通過略帶扭曲的形體、隨意簡率的用筆來烘托、渲染出佛苦修時的內在精神狀態。畫面左側題識「蘇伐羅吉蘇伐羅畫佛一軀／于無憂林中 己卯八月」。金農是清代（1644～1911）揚州八怪之一，此畫作於己卯，當為清乾隆二十四年（1759），即金農七十三歲時所作。
