此圖為《佛說佛名經》卷首圖，繪坐佛一尊。佛面相方圓，耳垂及肩，著紅色袈裟，結跏趺坐於蓮座上。帶圓形頭光、身光，上方為飾火焰紋寶珠的華蓋。此佛像造型規整，神態肅穆，線條工整，賦色單純，眉心、眼瞼、胸肌低凹等處所施鉛白已變色。圖右下角鈐有「李苞之印」，「之」字為朱文，其他三字為白文。
經卷全卷計三十五紙，全長1,467公分，卷內各段之間繪有小佛像，卷末有懺悔文，卷尾題「佛說佛名經卷第六」，後有題記。據題記可知，五代後梁貞明六年（920），沙州長史曹議金之子曹元德造《佛說佛名經》二百八十八卷各若干本，為曹氏家族及沙州民眾發願祈福，此經卷即為其中之一。
