畫面由右至左鋪展，起首處畫竹林，其後坡坨、林木、岩穴處眾羅漢或閑坐，或交談，或讀經，或凝神佇立，或端坐賞梅，或禪坐，動作、神態各異，卷末在瀑布山石間結束。
圖中人物用線簡潔灑脫，微施薄染，屬南宋（1127～1279）梁楷簡筆人物畫一路。山石用筆大膽隨意，橫塗縱抹，水氣淋漓，與簡筆人物的風格相得益彰。山石除提供人物活動情境、烘托人物性格的作用外，並將眾多人物安排在通景畫面中，具有保持畫面統一、整體的作用。
此幅用筆、皴法上雖趨於簡逸豪放，然人物或山水，在總體的形制上卻較規整。人物面部刻劃較為細緻，山石、坡坨等的邊界線處理也很清爽，顯示作者筆墨收放自如。此圖無作者款印，卷後有翁嵩年題。
