傳說供奉綠度母可解脫人間的火難、水難、牢獄之難、賊難、獅難、象難、蛇難、非人難等八種苦難，又稱救八難度母。其右手作與願印，有施予、令如願、賜護及普度的意義。在蒙藏地區，人們認為文成公主即是綠度母的化身。
此尊造像頭戴細長的五葉冠，下腹略凸，雙腿轉折生硬，右腳掌已失。整體為錘鍱而成，飾物及衣紋顯得單薄，身嵌松石瑪瑙，具有明顯的內蒙古察哈爾地區造像特徵。
