五世達賴阿旺羅桑嘉措（ngag dbang blo bzang rgya mtsho），六歲時被迎至西藏拉薩哲蚌寺（'bras spungs dgon pa）坐牀。清順治十年（1653）受封達賴喇嘛稱號與金印，正式成為西藏等地佛教領袖，並管理西藏政務，時年三十六歲。
此像為十八世紀作品，沒有戴帽，濃眉大眼，唇上兩撇鬚髭。內著交領僧坎，外披大氅，左手置於腹前，右手當胸作說法印並拈長莖花，花朵升於右肩側。僧袍覆蓋雙腿，衣紋寫意而大氣。趺坐於陰刻花紋的三層卡墊上。該像以寫實手法，生動地表現五世達賴的神采。
