熱巴巾（ral pa can），意為長髮人，據說其將頭巾敷地，令諸僧踐其上，然後頂戴，效法儒童以髮掩泥，請燃燈佛履踏而過的典故。本名赤祖德贊（khri gtsug lde btsan，815～841在位），西藏吐蕃王朝（7～9世紀）三大法王之一。王於八一五年繼位後，制定七戶養僧制度，全力推行佛教，被尊奉為金剛手菩薩的化身。
此像頭戴花冠，臉龐方圓，大眼直鼻秀唇，面相俊秀。繫領巾，罩對襟外袍，袍袖向上飛揚，下著裙，腰間繫帶。右手當胸持長莖蓮花，花端上置金剛杵，為金剛手菩薩的標識；左手置於腿上，盤坐於方形台座。台座後部刻有藏文，標明其身分。
