大黑天原是古代印度的戰神，後被納為藏傳佛教的護法神。此像一面二臂，頭戴五骷髏冠，上飾化佛，頗為少見。披掛五十顆人頭鬘，身飾種種瓔珞珠飾，腰間佩縵網莊嚴帶，帔帛呈半圓形，具有如同頭光和身光之裝飾效果。右手於胸前持銀質鉞刀，左手於腹前托嘎巴拉碗，雙足極短，向左右蹲踞踏於仰臥之人屍上，底部為覆蓮座。
整體造像以罕見的鐵鎏金製造，黑色膚體與鎏金寶冠、瓔珞、飄帶、蓮座等，形成鮮明對比。座面刻款「大明永樂年（1403～1424）施」。此種身形的大黑天傳自瑪爾巴卻吉洛追（mar pa chos kyi blo gros）譯師，堪稱大黑天造像之精品。
