一九五九年陝西省西安市安國寺遺址出土。該處出土的雕像多半殘損，推測應是唐武宗會昌五年（845）毀佛時遭毀壞棄置的佛像之一。
菩薩面如滿月，眉心有白毫，彎眉細眼，唇小而豐，肌膚光潔溫潤，極富彈性。飾耳墜，髮髻高聳呈漩渦狀，細密整齊，無瓔珞寶冠等裝飾，有敷金彩繪的痕跡。
整體表現雍容華貴的神韻與氣質，其雕工精細，刀法簡練自然，生動地以現實生活的審美觀融入宗教造像，完美體現出宗教與人間、現實與理想的結合，是中唐（756～846）菩薩造像世俗化影響的典型作品。
