Todaiji Temple Founder’s Hall: Master Roben

東大寺良弁僧正像

位於開山堂。據《東大寺要錄》記載,奈良寶龜四年(773)良弁示寂,平安寬仁三年(1019)首次舉辦良弁的紀念法會,推測此造像約雕造於當時,為現存最古的良弁肖像雕刻,每年十二月十六日圓寂紀念日開放供人參拜。其一生致力於創建東大寺,受任該寺第一代別當(日本管轄大寺院的僧官)。一九五一年指定為日本國寶。
 該像為等身的比丘形象,由檜木整材雕刻,再接合膝部。內著交領僧祇支,外披袈裟,手持如意,結跏趺坐。定睛凝視,表情威嚴,泰然自若,具強韌的意志力,額頭、雙頰刻劃皺紋,被認為是其壯年時期的風貌。背脊伸直,挺胸,肩寬胸厚,雙膝平展,表現碩大骨架之量感。於白底施加膚色、白綠、墨、朱紅等色彩,保存完好,具裝飾效果,展現莊重沉著的性格。
