Mathura: Head of a Buddha

印度北方邦秣菟羅恰勿帕羅出土

印度北方邦秣菟羅恰勿帕羅(Chaubara, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh)出土,為貴霜王朝(約1〜3世紀)典型的佛陀頭部造像。
 佛頭部剃髮,頭頂有卷貝形的肉髻,其上刻有表現毛髮的細線。臉形方圓,面頰飽滿,眉毛以舒緩的弓形隆線表示。眉間的小圓窪,當初應為嵌有寶石的白毫。眼睛全睜,下唇尤其豐厚,嘴角上翹,浮現較不合乎自然、不生動的古風式微笑。除鼻子殘缺外,其他部分保存相對完好。兩耳略有缺損,但仍可見耳垂變長的傾向。由頭部的尺寸比例判斷,原像應為一尊巨大的佛立像。
