宗喀巴（tsong kha pa）為十四世紀西藏佛教格魯派創始人，他提倡戒律，改革佛教，著有《菩提道次第廣論》，被尊為文殊菩薩的化身。
此像為西藏作品，面容慈祥，嘴邊刻劃出深深的笑紋，向外張開的雙耳是西藏人物造像特點，與常見的宗喀巴像相比更具個性化。雙手結說法印，持蓮花莖升於雙肩，蓮花上各托劍與經書，是藏傳佛教文殊菩薩的象徵。袈裟緊裹軀體，結跏趺坐於束腰仰覆蓮座上。像與座分鑄而成，蓮座寬大，上飾聯珠紋，座後無蓮瓣，座底有小十字交杵圖案。像繫清宮黃簽題記「大利益札什瑪宗喀巴乾隆五十八年（1793）十月二十一日收包衣昂幫呈覽」。「包衣昂幫」漢譯為總管內務府大臣。
