印度北方邦秣菟羅出土
印度北方邦秣菟羅（Mathura, Uttar Pradesh）出土。佛螺髮肉髻，清晰可見。臉方正，雙眉呈長弧線，眼睛微啟，作冥思禪定狀，下眼瞼強調細長輪廓的美感。鼻子破損，上下雙唇渾厚有型。以尖銳細線刻劃五官細部，顯得輪廓鮮明，不失優雅。一至三世紀期間的秣菟羅佛像有著杏形眼睛、弓眉、厚唇和嘴角上提微笑等面部特徵，相對而言此像明顯不同，五官有闊大現象。
從四世紀末至六世紀為笈多王朝（約320～550）藝術的黃金期，佛像造像藝術以秣菟羅和鹿野苑為二大主流，秣菟羅佛像造型隨時間有著不同變革，鹿野苑造像亦受秣菟羅的啟發影響而發展出獨特風格。
