李資玄為高麗（918～1392）著名學者，讀《雪峰禪師語錄》，見「盡乾坤是箇眼，汝向甚麼處蹲坐？」而豁然自悟。坦然和尚曾修學於門下。此碑為坦然敘述其師李資玄一生的行誼，以其師晚年隱居於文殊院，故以此名碑。碑文中稱李資玄「偏愛禪寂」，並記其一生中有關的佛教事蹟。
此碑以行書寫就，間雜草體，但字字不連屬，與懷仁《集王字聖教序》同一形式，遇有與《集王字聖教序》相同的單字，結字牽帶幾無二致，可見坦然之書學所宗。雖書寫品質不能與王羲之相較，但是上下行氣自然，可謂善學。
坦然十九歲出家，從廣明寺慧炤國師得法，受到高麗肅宗（1096～1105在位）、睿宗（1106～1122在位）、毅宗（1147～1170在位）三王尊崇，諡號「大鑑國師」。
