Seeing the Buddha When the Flower Opens

花開見佛 喬大壯

「花開見佛」語出諸多佛教經典,如《三時繫念佛事》云:「佛及聖眾,手執金臺,來迎接我,於一念頃,生極樂國,花開見佛,即聞佛乘,頓開佛慧,廣度眾生,滿菩提願。」
 此為四字朱文印,觀作者刻此印,就樣貌而言略受黃牧父的影響,例如光潔的線條,及印文與邊欄極為貼近。在布局方面,可看到這方印有兩處留空的地方,「開」字上方與「見」字下方,這是斜對角的呼應,留出的空間,讓筆畫得以舒展,使此印有疏朗的空靈感。篆刻雖無師承,刀法的使用崇尚工穩,光潔乾淨的線條表現,主要是源於每字緩慢平穩的走刀。
 全印穩重堅實,充滿靜穆沉著之氣。據說,喬大壯對於較難的印,則累至印稿百次以上,才能定稿上石。可見治印之難,不難於刻,而難於章法。
 喬大壯名曾劬,字大壯,以字行;別號壯翁、波外翁、波外居士。一八九二年生於北京,原籍四川華陽(今成都雙流),京師大學堂(北京大學)畢業。其精通諸子百家,有很深濃的文學修養,書法、篆刻亦精。篆刻以秦(221~207 BCE)漢(206 BCE~220)為法,初宗皖、浙兩派,三十歲後學趙之謙、黃士陵,所作印離方逐圓,並廣收博取商周(約16世紀~221 BCE)古器銘文,融會變化,自成一格。
