Letter from Master Dahui Zonggao to Wuxiang

與無相居士尺牘 大慧宗杲

此卷是大慧宗杲罹禍移居梅州（今廣東梅州）時致無相居士的書札，述身處邊陲瘴癘之地，感念無相居士之德。
大慧宗杲生於北宋（960～1127），正是書法發展的黃金期，而蘇軾、黃庭堅、米芾等書法大師皆活躍其間。此卷書札，用筆雖不甚精到，然而點畫皆無扁薄之弊。字形寬舒，章法平直，字態略帶傾側，皆統一在平直寬順的章法之下，展現尺牘信札自然隨意的風致，是件極佳的書法作品。
大慧宗杲為臨濟高僧，乃圜悟克勤之後的宗門巨匠，致力弘揚「看話禪」，與曹洞宗宏智正覺之「默照禪」相對稱，著有《正法眼藏》一書傳世。
參考釋文：無相居士不立道義丈室即□／初冬乍寒伏惟／道體萬福宗杲跧伏瘴鄉幸未／即死皆／德庇之及也前此嘗作數字附循／州蘧將去想無不達信後益深／瞻念蓮禪者得得歸臨平省／親渠受業在吳下山智果此便／甚的不可無書故率爾作此承／動靜而已此中家風蓮能言之／未問伏乞／如時珍重不宣 宗杲悚息上狀／十月初二日／此有梅州兵士還千萬／寄聲要知邇來安否／之詳也至禱之
