凌霄額字 虛堂智愚

「凌霄」二大字，結字有失當處，特別是「霄」字，上部的「雨」寫得過大，使下方之「月」部幾成「日」字。然禪家書作往往直勁無飾，而有不拘細節的大氣爽利，故此卷雖非十全之作，亦頗可觀。
虛堂智愚為宋代（960～1279）臨濟宗楊岐派禪僧，住徑山萬壽寺時，日本學僧南浦紹明入宋，參禪於虛堂門下，並得其嗣法。南浦於鎌倉永文四年（1267）歸國後，三十餘年宣揚禪風，開創日本臨濟宗興隆之基。
