蓮花生大士是八世紀印度大乘佛教密宗金剛乘高僧，後來被奉為藏傳佛教寧瑪派的祖師。
此像身穿交領長袍，腰間束帶，外罩窄袖長大衣，衣著上刻有細小花紋。頭戴寶冠，其上三層整齊的冠飾，身披印度式長花環，作蓮花生在烏仗那國（今巴基斯坦斯瓦特，Swat）的王子裝束造型。左手托一金碗，右手平舉持法鼓，舒右足而坐。雙眼略微向下凝視，面部表情嚴肅。
束腰蓮座兩排蓮瓣紋路清晰，蓮座上下緣鑲嵌聯珠紋裝飾。此像屬十六世紀西藏拉薩地區來烏群巴琍瑪佛像（sle'u chung pa li ma）風格。
