像的底座後部有三行藏文題款，譯為「此像的裝藏有佛陀的舍利子、上師本人的頭髮、上師不壞的牙齒等有護持力的聖物，向這經過千次發光的有護持力的遍知一切羅桑益西貝桑布的十五歲身相的鑄像頂禮」。其中「遍知一切羅桑益西貝桑布」即指五世班禪額爾德尼羅桑益西（blo bzang ye shes）。
班禪頭戴通人冠，雙眼微啟，凝視遠方，神態寫實，衣紋簡練，自然流暢。結跏趺坐於坐墊之上，左手置於腹前，原托一經書，已佚，右手前伸置於腿上。整個造像簡潔古樸，生動地刻劃出一個嚴肅博學的格魯派高僧形象，屬札什倫布寺（bkra shis lhun po dgon pa）金銅鑄像的風格代表，是清代（1644～1911）西藏金銅造像中的精品。
