五大力菩薩像

日本

又稱五大力吼。據《仁王般若波羅蜜經》記載,此五大力菩薩像係守護國家的菩薩,故有五大力吼之稱。作品為舉行仁王法會時使用,繪製於十一世紀。明治二十一年(1888)因火災失去二幅,現存三幅。主尊為金剛吼菩薩,左右分別為無畏十力吼、龍王吼菩薩。一九五二年指定為日本國寶。
 三尊像皆為三目,呈忿怒相,齜牙咧嘴,雙目圓睜,逆髮直豎,渾身散發渦卷形火焰,表現出密教畫的森嚴氣氛。身青黑的金剛吼菩薩採正面坐姿,右手結劍印,左手捧寶輪,結跏趺坐於蓮座上。手掌、足底及腹部均施以淡紅色暈染,花形瓔珞和蓮瓣則飾以暈染漸層彩色,色調濃厚卻不失柔和。幽暗色彩配置大花形圖樣之裝飾法,為平安時代(794~1185)初期的古老樣式。
 身形黃色的無畏十力吼菩薩,右手高舉握金剛杵。身暗綠的龍王吼菩薩,右手持寶輪。二像皆右腳蹶起,左腳踩踏,呈斜向立姿,左臂內屈結劍印,表現勇猛的氣魄。以粗線條勾勒輪廊,線條流暢,傾向優柔的暈染,被認為是平安時代中期所作。
