Gangoji Temple Gokurakubo: Model Pagoda

相傳此塔為日本江戶安政六年(1859)燒毀的奈良元興寺五重塔之縮小模型,依其樣式推測是奈良時代(710~794)晚期之作,但塔的啟建緣起、目的不詳。經平安(794~1185)、鎌倉(1185~1333)、江戶(1615~1868)時代三次整修,尚保留創建時之建材,已成研究奈良時代國分寺七重塔等不復存在的古建築技法之珍貴史料。一九五二年指定為日本國寶。
 木造小塔高約550公分,以筒板瓦形板鋪設屋頂,面闊、進深皆三間,高五層,安置於元興寺極樂坊本堂內部。屋檐結構採三跳斗栱,二層以上皆設平座欄杆,塔剎置九層相輪,剎頂為銅製水煙和寶珠組成。其最大特色為斗栱乃至椽等小構件,均依實塔的十分之一製作,兩材以榫卯相接。第一層高度為110公分,二層以上各減10公分,至第五層為70公分,每層依比例漸縮,其餘的櫨斗、栱、升,每層皆同尺寸,如實呈現,為工藝之精品。
