Sanchi Stupa 1: Fragment of a Bodhisattva

桑奇一號塔菩薩像
印度中央邦波帕爾桑奇一號塔出土
一八八三年印度中央邦波帕爾（Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh）桑奇一號塔（Sanchi Stupa 1）出土。考古人員在發掘此塔西面塔門時發現該像，但一直無法辨識其身分，直至一九七一年，同地出土另一尊與該像應屬相配對的造像殘軀，根據其上遺留之龍華痕跡，故推斷為彌勒菩薩，進而確認該像是觀音菩薩，兩者原為相對侍立於佛尊兩側。
該像頭部、雙臂和大腿以下雖已佚失，但可見體態豐腴，比例勻稱，肌膚光滑，曲線優美。身軀呈三屈式，極具動感。袒上身，頸飾多重珠串項圈、花飾瓔珞，胸前斜披獸皮，中間繫有兩個繩結，左胸刻一羚羊頭。腹部微鼓，重層腰帶雕刻華貴別致，體現出藝匠的高超技巧及美學理念。
