增長天王像

增長天王又稱南方天王，為四天王之一。四天王乃承襲印度教的神祇，後被佛教尊為護法神，其信仰自古以來極為盛行，中國或日本均存有許多遺品，其形象亦各有不同。
此天王站立岩石上，左手執戟，右手叉腰，右膝微彎，重心置於左足，身軀略呈「S」形，雖高僅有1公尺餘，但因體態修長而顯得高大。天王凸出的大眼、濃眉、下咧的嘴唇，表現對無明眾生的喝斥。
此像雕刻採分段式，雕後再組合，避免整塊雕刻過程因熱脹冷縮而裂開。面部表情傳神，腰帶盤結處等皆雕刻得細緻微妙，外表彩繪貼金箔，為日本鎌倉時代（1185～1333）作品中的傑作之一。
