袈裟，日文為刺納，將多種形、色的碎布片，以二層、三層襯裡，補綴縫製而成的百衲衣。佛陀時代僧人穿著由碎布拼湊而成的簡單衣服，稱為糞掃衣或百衲衣。據日本延曆寺史記載，此衣原為中國天台宗智顗大師所穿，日本天台宗開山祖師最澄入唐（618～907）求法帶回的文物之一。製於六世紀，為東瀛最古的法衣之一。一九六六年指定為日本國寶。
衣肩寬53.5公分，領寬11.5公分，表裡以三層的碎絹布細密縫製，表與裡之間夾雜淺黃、紫、白等平織絹布。交領衣襟鑲有滾邊，旁繫有可固著蜻蜓式帶，衣襬貼縫織有細薄雲紋或似蓮花地紋等綾羅。兩袖和多處雖已缺失，但仍可推知當時的縫製技法。
