唐招提寺盧舍那佛坐像

日本

位於金堂,為該堂之主尊,是現存夾紵脫胎技法造像中最大的盧舍那佛坐像。據大正時代(1912~1926)整修記錄得知,為防止造像翹曲變形,像內架設角材以助支撐。一九五一年指定為日本國寶。
 佛像頂上結圓形肉髻,面形圓滿端秀,方額大耳,長眉秀目,嘴角微揚,神情莊嚴崇高。身披袈裟,衣紋如水波婉轉流動,結跏趺坐於八重瓣蓮花座上。左手放置膝上,掌心向上,中指與無名指微屈;右手屈臂手掌向前,拇指與中指相捻,呈說法印。
 背光中鑲嵌千尊化佛,今僅存八百六十四尊,體現《梵網經》中的蓮華藏世界。蓮花座上的每一枚蓮瓣,原繪有小釋迦像,惜現今都已剝落。
 台座內側有漆部造弟麻呂、物部廣足、沙彌淨福等人名的墨書,故有一說為官營工房的佛工所製作;另一說則據《招提寺建立緣起》,係由隨鑑真赴日的弟子唐代(618~907)僧人義靜所作。
 該像強調身軀的豐腴、寬闊的肩膀,雄渾的作風與中國盛唐(712~756)風格相仿;佛像衣著以寫實為主,增加細部裝飾,推測以唐天寶年間(742~755)為範例,反映當時中國佛像樣式及日本奈良(710~794)後期高超精湛的塑像水準。
