描繪西方極樂淨土的莊嚴。主尊阿彌陀佛雙手結彌陀定印，頭頂放光，光中化現十方諸佛。觀音和大勢至菩薩分坐佛兩側，微側身向阿彌陀佛，分別捧持寶台和蓮花。畫面上方祥雲繚繞，華麗的七寶樓閣掩映其間。
三聖像前繪菩薩、羅漢及伎樂天等，另有來迎菩薩躬身迎接往生者。畫幅下方繪七重欄楯、七重羅網、七重行樹及七寶蓮池，其間羅列共命鳥、孔雀、鸚鵡及迦陵頻伽等種種奇妙雜色之鳥。七寶蓮池中蓮花盛開，花上化生人物或為比丘，或為童子。
全作人物眾多，景物繁複，但構圖嚴謹，左右對稱，設色妍麗，描製精謹，景物與人物之間虛實互補，列序有秩，將《阿彌陀經》等淨土諸經所闡述的極樂世界勝景、殊勝，表現無遺。
