此像風格特殊，和一般藏傳佛教採立姿的金剛手菩薩不同，為尼泊爾天然紅銅雕像，泛出異於一般銅鑄像的光澤，屬現存精品之一。
菩薩頭戴三葉寶冠，五官簡練，斂目沉思，頸有三道紋，佩項圈、大耳璫、臂釧和腕釧。寬肩細腰，袒上身，下著裙。右手當胸施無畏印，左手置腿上握持金剛杵，結跏趺坐於仰覆蓮座，蓮瓣寬大。整體造型簡樸，無繁複雕飾。圓形鏤空背光飾規則的火焰紋，有別於密教的精緻手法，突顯紅銅本身的質感。
在密教中，金剛手菩薩與觀音、文殊菩薩合稱為「三族姓尊」，分別代表伏惡、慈悲及智慧。此三尊的形象在後期有不同的變化，而原本現寂靜相的金剛手菩薩在藏傳佛教中改為忿怒的護法相。此尊可視為大乘佛教過渡到金剛乘密教的展現。
