據《高麗史》記載，一二七○年高麗王朝臣服於中國元朝（1206～1368），信奉藏傳佛教。翌年喇嘛至高麗，高麗忠烈王（1275～1308在位）依止喇嘛受戒。此尊像被認為在藏傳佛教的影響下所作。高麗時期（918～1392）菩薩像除了有漢地元代風格外，也反映了藏傳佛教的樣式。
此菩薩像採自在坐姿，整體造型雍容閑適。頭戴鏤空高冠，面部豐滿，上眼瞼稍微鼓出，微妙上揚，雙耳垂掛耳璫，袒胸，束腰，身掛瓔珞、臂釧、腕釧、手鐲等飾物，極為華麗，為高麗時期藏傳佛教金銅菩薩造像之代表作品。
