Kelaniya Temple New Image House: Receiving the Bodhi Tree

斯里蘭卡

位於斯里蘭卡可侖坡(Colombo)東郊的肯蘭尼耶王大寺(Kelaniya Temple)新殿北面耳室正壁。寺院壁畫年代分兩期,第一期繪於十九世紀,為坎底派(Kandyan School)畫風,多為佛本生題材,亦有少數佛傳故事。第二期繪於二十世紀中葉,不同於傳統寺院壁畫,以描繪斯里蘭卡佛教及該寺的重要歷史為主,由畫家曼迪斯(Solius Mendis)融合印度著名佛教石窟及斯里蘭卡的繪畫風格,創造獨特之新古典畫風。
 據巴利文《大史》及《菩提樹史》記載,印度孔雀王朝阿育王(約269~232 BCE在位)之長子摩哂陀到錫蘭(今斯里蘭卡)布教後,國王天愛帝須(Devanampiya Tissa,250~210 BCE在位)之夫人阿●(上少+下免)羅(Anula)欲出家,王遂遣其外甥阿栗吒(Arittha)迎請阿育王之女僧伽蜜多到錫蘭成立比丘尼僧團,阿育王則截裁菩提伽耶的菩提樹枝作為供養。該圖即描繪僧伽蜜多帶著菩提樹苗,登陸錫蘭閻浮俱那港(Jambukola)的情節。
 圖中央繪一船舶,正降帆靠岸。船身上飾仰蓮紋、幾何圖形、聯珠紋及彩色線條等圖案,船頭飾龍,顯得莊嚴華麗。船上置台座,上托飾蓮紋之金色花盆,盆中植菩提樹苗,樹身散發光芒,象徵佛光,上方置寶蓋。僧伽蜜多手挽鉢帶,立於樹旁,身後侍者擎傘蓋。船下方天愛帝須王高舉雙手,涉水恭迎菩提樹。
 全畫色調淡雅,注重亮度表現,柔和而富立體感,為該寺壁畫的代表作之一。
