Portable Shrine with Sakyamuni Buddha Triad (opened)

木雕佛三尊像合龕

唐代(618~907)八世紀作品。據日僧空海入唐請回的佛典編錄目錄《御請來目錄》載:「刻白檀佛菩薩金剛等像一龕」,推測此作係空海攜回日本的作品。傳說空海常將此龕安置於枕頭下,故稱枕本尊。又為僧人雲遊四方的早晚祈願用之隨行物,亦稱為檀龕佛。一九六四年指定為日本國寶。
 龕以整塊堅硬的白檀木,取下木心部分雕刻佛像,分成主龕及左右副龕,扉上設閂。主龕以釋迦牟尼佛坐像為主尊,像高7.2公分。佛著通肩袈裟,右手施無畏印,左手握衣角置於膝上。左右副龕為菩薩半跏像,均垂一足踏蓮,一足盤屈。
 佛、菩薩周圍隨侍環繞,諸像尺寸不一,共二十五尊,皆以高浮雕技法雕造,眼、唇施彩。佛座下方分別有金剛力士、獅子、香爐及合掌跪拜的供養人等配置,推測是飾板雕造後嵌入龕內。
