該像約雕製於九世紀下半葉，為日本比叡山西塔黑谷青龍寺留傳之造像，現藏於滋賀延曆寺國寶殿，為日本重要文化財。
該像為《維摩詰經》病中的維摩詰居士與探病的文殊菩薩論法之相貌，包括雙臂、曲几，由整材雕造，像不刳空，右手指尖部分已失，几腳為後來補上。
維摩詰披頭巾，垂至雙肩及背後，頂骨略微隆起。面相方圓，蹙眉，斂目，嘴唇閉合，嘴邊蓄鬚，表情溫和，予人內斂、穩重之感。外穿圓領的寬袖大衣，覆至足下。兩肘貼近曲几，雙臂上舉，左手豎起食指和中指，右手掌心向上，似作說法狀。衣紋淺雕，間飾翻波式的襞褶，呈現起伏，線條流暢，刀法簡練明快。整體造型均衡，身軀健碩，具壯年之姿。
