Hasedera Temple Main Hall: Eleven-Headed Avalokitesvara

長谷寺十一面觀音菩薩像

位於日本奈良縣櫻井市長谷寺本堂,為該堂之主尊。該像右手持錫杖立於岩座上之獨特的形式,被稱為長谷式觀音,其後仿此造型的觀音像盛行於各地。最初之造像於奈良天平五年(733)舉行佛像開光,十世紀後歷經七次火災,現今尊像為室町天文七年(1538)再次雕造完成,像內刻有雕刻師運宗法眼等之銘文。現為日本重要文化財。
 菩薩由多材檜木接合而成,二臂十一面。妝彩漆繪,金泥裝飾。身軀、背光、台座比例碩大,整體高度10餘公尺。頭上可分為二層,除正面化佛立像外,共十面,上層是化佛面,下層左右配置有瞋面、暴大笑面及白牙上出面等菩薩面,各菩薩面頭上皆裝飾透雕寶冠,頂戴化佛坐像。
 菩薩戴寶冠,額前垂吊飾物,冠側垂掛串珠,胸佩項圈、瓔珞,莊嚴其身。面相豐圓,眉骨深刻,唇邊蓄鬚,眼瞼微開,俯視下方,神情安詳。左手握寶瓶,右手掛念珠、持錫杖。帔帛邊端有渦形的衣紋,具有平安時代(794~1185)初期雕刻之作風。
