發願文 黃庭堅

此卷為黃庭堅崇奉佛教，發願不食酒肉、不犯淫欲之作。凡六十九行，二百三十七字。卷中且言若有違犯，則眾生之過，其過亦一併代而受之。明代（1368～1644）懷渭禪師言：「誦之使人心目震駭，神觀肅然」，可見其誓願之堅定。
此卷結字用筆雖略顯稚拙之感，大抵是出於過分專謹作字所致；仔細觀察便可發現，無論是筆畫的書寫動勢，或是單字構形的細節，都呈現由顏真卿影響過渡到黃庭堅成熟書風的樣態，是一件不可多得的佳作。
黃庭堅為北宋（960～1127）詩人、書法家。虔誠奉佛，以居士身悟道，承臨濟宗黃龍晦堂祖心禪師之法，書跡多具禪意。
