佛高肉髻，髮絲刻劃精細，面相方圓，額際寬平，雙眼細長，鼻梁略平，嘴角含笑，神情閑靜。著通肩袈裟，前襟衣紋呈「U」形，衣褶棱起形成淺階梯狀，顯得質地厚重。這種簡略而具裝飾性的衣紋形式，仍略保犍陀羅造像風格。雙手掌心向內，於腹前交疊作禪定印，結跏趺坐於方形台座上。座邊框飾雲紋，正面遺留三圓孔，推測兩旁原嵌二獅，中間為博山形香爐。台座後面銘文為「建武四年（338）歲在戊戌八月卅日□比丘竺□□□慕道及一生……」。
此像是現存最早有確切紀年銘文的中國銅佛像，可與佛教初傳中國無紀年銘文的造像作對比參證，在佛教雕塑史上具有時代標型的價值。
