保聖寺羅漢像

位於江蘇省蘇州市吳中區甪直鎮保聖寺。寺創建於南朝梁天監二年(503)。大殿為北宋大中祥符年間(1008~1016)重建。殿內原供奉一佛二弟子像,東西兩側壁有塑壁十八羅漢。一九二七年大殿遭受火災,僅存九尊羅漢和九塊塑壁碎塊。一九三○年在大殿原址建古物館將僅存之九尊羅漢像及殘壁移入,並揣摩原狀修復。諸羅漢相傳是唐代(618~907)楊惠之所塑,但據其風格,應為宋代(960~1279)作品。一九六一年列為中國「全國重點文物保護單位」。
 塑壁巉巖突兀,洞窟錯列,羅漢塑於其間,藉境烘托不同人物的性格特徵。此種以山巖、雲水為背景的人物形式,在宋代廣泛用於寺院。羅漢有老有少,神態各異,形象豐富且生動,造型準確,有梵式、漢式兩種形象。梵僧多作深目高鼻,濃眉虯髯,著通肩袈裟,衣紋成條狀凸起;漢式羅漢則著交領寬袖袍服,完全具漢地高僧形象。
 羅漢群像分三層分布於塑壁間,上層由西向東第一尊俗稱智真羅漢,為一中年僧人形象,結跏趺坐,凝視遠方。第二尊俗稱伏虎羅漢,著袒右袈裟,敞胸,雙目炯炯有神,神態威猛,雙臂損毀。第三尊披頭巾,作漢族老者形象,閉目,似進入了甚深的禪定。第四尊俗稱降龍羅漢,胡貌梵相,為羅漢塑像中的精品。
 中層中央一尊俗稱袒腹羅漢,神情坦然,雙目及兩手損毀。下層由西向東第一尊俗稱沉思羅漢,微俯首,面相豐腴,衣紋飄灑自如,鼻、目及右手損毀。第二、三尊講經羅漢和聽經羅漢相對而坐,講經羅漢背微駝,容貌清臞,眉骨凸出,右臂上舉,左手撫膝,作講經之狀,雙目及右手損毀。聽經羅漢作青年僧人形象,面相豐圓,口微張,神情專注側身面對講經羅漢。下層東端一尊以其表情似哭非哭、似笑非笑,俗稱尷尬羅漢,濃眉,絡腮鬍鬚,具胡貌梵相特徵,兩手及雙目損毀,形神刻劃惟妙惟肖。
