灌頂曆名 空海

依據卷上空海自題識語，可知此卷為空海在日本京都高雄山寺（今神護寺）主持灌頂儀式時，為受灌頂僧人所書寫之名錄。一九五一年指定為日本國寶。
書卷內容有三次灌頂名錄，一為平安弘仁三年（812）十一月十五日主持金剛界灌頂，二為同年十二月十四日主持胎藏界灌頂，三為四年三月六日主持金剛界灌頂。第三次名錄近年被認為是他人之筆。
空海為日本平安時代（794～1185）初期書聖，曾入中國，多方問學於高僧。書法風格主要源自顏真卿；其流麗的韻致，源於王羲之、王獻之。此卷為信手之作，卷中多有塗改，其用筆較緩者，仍帶二王與顏真卿之流風，信手揮灑處，多有顏真卿《祭姪文稿》筆致，頗有天趣。
