印度北方邦鹿野苑遺址出土
印度北方邦瓦拉那西（Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh）鹿野苑（Sarnath）出土。五世紀以後，鹿野苑盛行笈多王朝（約320～550）古典藝術風格的佛像，從該地區出土的造像包括了許多背屏式的小型佛像，此像即為其中之一例。
此像臉圓，作童顏相。肉髻寬大，螺髮尖凸。眉間白毫可能原以彩繪表現，眉毛細長彎曲，眼呈杏形，半啟，上下眼瞼刻劃尤深，突顯印度人面貌特徵。著通肩袈裟，緊貼軀體，映現全身結構；上身較短，大腿粗壯，比例稍欠自然，唯曲線流暢，肌膚表現柔軟，展現了鹿野苑獨特的刻造手法。下半身之刻紋似非原作所有，可能為後世補刻。
