桑奇一號塔佛傳圖之降伏火龍

位於東門南柱內側。表現佛陀初轉法輪後，至摩揭陀國化度拜火教優樓頻螺迦葉、伽耶迦葉、那提迦葉三兄弟的事蹟。圖示佛陀於優樓頻螺迦葉的火神堂內留宿一夜，降伏了堂內火龍，令三迦葉兄弟敬佩信服，於是率領弟子千人皈依佛陀。
圖中央為火神堂，堂內金剛座象徵佛陀，上方雕有五頭火龍，座前刻劃代表火神的聖火。屋頂兩窗戶噴出火舌，堂外牛、羊、豬等家畜亂竄，還有掉落河中的外道和猴子，戲劇性地表達了佛陀降伏火龍時的騷動。火神堂外兩側是迦葉三兄弟及眾弟子合掌禮拜。畫面右下方的草廬前，一束高髻者坐於草蓆上，腰間和兩腳繫修行者用的禪帶，應為佛陀化身的苦行者，正與面前雙手合掌的優樓頻螺迦葉對話。
