此浮雕刻劃佛陀於拘尸那揭羅入涅槃時的情景，屬典型犍陀羅涅槃圖的構圖形式。
畫面以右脇作獅子臥姿的佛陀為中心，著通肩式袈裟，左手及雙腳覆蓋於袈裟內，左膝微屈向前。圓形頭光以陰刻弦紋勾邊。牀榻前，著袒右袈裟的比丘阿難，哀嚎倒地，阿那律伸出手來，作安慰狀。牀前的另一位比丘，則是最後皈依佛陀的須跋陀羅，側身面向佛陀，穿覆頭衣、通肩袈裟，默默禪定，同樣面對佛陀的入滅，與阿難的反應形成對比。
牀頭阿那律的後方，繫腰布、左手托金剛杵、右手高舉過頭者為執金剛神，轉過頭去強忍哀痛。牀尾有二人交談，係在摩揭陀遊化的弟子大迦葉，從外道口中得知佛陀入滅，立即趕往拘尸那揭羅。佛陀身後、畫面上方表現當地的末羅族人舉哀悲嘆，表現出各種誇張的動態。人群背後兩端，是帶有標誌性的娑羅雙樹。
