Bihar: Buddha and Attendants

一佛二菩薩像

印度比哈爾邦出土

印度比哈爾邦(Bihar)出土。主尊佛肉髻圓大,螺髮厚重,耳垂長彎。五官俊朗,神態靜穆優雅,顯現出雍容氣度,為波羅王朝(Pala,約8~12世紀)的造像典範。袒右袈裟薄衣貼體,突顯勻稱、壯碩的軀體。袈裟衣紋簡潔流暢,左肩垂下的翻摺衣角,增添設計感。右手施觸地印,左手作禪定印,結跏趺坐於仰覆蓮座上,座緣飾聯珠紋,大小蓮瓣重疊交錯。頭光外緣飾火焰紋,內圈雕扭轉的聯珠紋飾,富有裝飾意味。
 彌勒和觀音菩薩分侍左右,皆呈三屈式立姿,戴高寶冠,瓔珞嚴身,斜披珠串形聖線,腳踏蓮台。彌勒左手持龍華,右手施無畏印;觀音左手握長莖蓮花,右手作與願印。
 造像基座立面分成三格,兩側各雕一隻護法獅,中央陰刻水波紋,手持水瓶的地母和獻花供佛的供養人相對胡跪。佛頭光上方雕菩提枝葉;兩側各置一尖塔,尖塔與頭光之間鐫刻銘文。此時代的同類作品亦有類似塔雕,其圖像意義可能代表著過去和未來世均有佛存在,藉此象徵佛教源遠流長。
