Shogenji Temple: Prince Siddhartha at Birth

太子降生像

據《元興寺緣起》記載,佛教最初由百濟傳來時,悉達多太子像及浴佛器皿即一併傳入日本,自古以來太子降生便受到信仰。該像鑄造於七世紀,為日本現存年代最早的太子降生像之一。一九八八年指定為日本重要文化財。
 此像包括頭後背光所用的榫頭與足下的蓮台,為一體鑄成,銅造鎏金。太子上半身較長,下半身較短,一手指天,一手指地,跣足於蓮台上。方臉大耳,漾著笑容,螺髮似小方塊狀。袒上身,著裙,繫結的腰帶與下裙的滾邊施以裝飾,表現出在小像上往往被省略的部分。從太子像面帶微笑的表情及左右對稱的衣紋線等,可見到近似止利派金銅佛的雕刻藝術。
