Paying Respect to the Triple Gem

此浮雕描繪佛弟子禮拜象徵三寶的三寶標。三寶標又作三寶、三叉、三鈷,其圖像多於法輪上安三叉,象徵佛、法、僧,代表佛陀初轉法輪。另有一說,三叉象徵佛寶,法輪象徵法寶,樹葉象徵僧寶,然一般即以三叉象徵三寶。其圖案源自古印度孔雀王朝阿育王(約269~232 BCE在位)時期的佛教藝術,多用以裝飾塔門之尖頭、柱、橫梁等。
 圖中方形台上置法輪,法輪上置三叉,三叉上又置三個法輪。上方三個法輪皆有輻條,象徵佛法,或寓意佛最初為五比丘說法三次,稱「三轉法輪」。下方法輪以蓮瓣雕飾,左右有二僧人胡跪合掌,上方左右分立以帝釋、梵天為代表的諸天,以及僧人、在家弟子,皆在一旁禮拜三寶。類似此圖的象徵性表現,在古印度早期佛教美術中十分普遍,然在犍陀羅地區,佛陀造像興起後就較為少見。
