Past Life as the Golden Grain Tathagata

金粟如來是後身 吳士傑

此印文出自李白《答湖州迦葉司馬問白是何人》中言:「青蓮居士謫仙人,酒肆藏名三十春。湖州司馬何須問,金粟如來是後身。」金粟如來,為過去佛之名,指維摩居士之前身。
 這是一方七字朱文的篆刻作品。以篆刻藝術的形式而言,一件好的作品要從章法、篆法、刀法,三方面探討。印章的章法,指的就是構圖,以篆刻術語而言,就是「分朱布白」。所以印面的協調,是篆刻美觀與否的首要條件。
 此印章法以字體結構統一,取得全印的協調,有許多刻意盤曲的線條。又以圓轉的篆字縱橫全局,筆畫略帶弧形,取得筆勢一致。在用刀方面亦協調,全印運刀平穩,無雕鑿之痕,和諧而統一。
 吳士傑,生卒年不詳。字雋千,號漫公。清代(1644~1911)篆刻家。安徽歙縣人。生性豪爽、詼諧,精六書,於大小篆、鐘鼎款識靡不研究。治印收入多用於購買法書、古物,隨手散盡。其刀法秀雅,迥異時流,為時所重。
