此圖表現出佛陀涅槃時，北枕安臥於牀座上，菩薩、僧人、國王等環護在旁悲嘆的情景。佛牀座四周八株娑羅樹圍繞，後方跋提河流淌，右上空懸掛月亮，表現場所和時間。繪製於十二世紀。一九三一年指定為日本重要文化財。
圖中佛陀的手臂沿著身體伸展平放，面容安詳，枕邊桌上置有袈裟和鉢袋，左上方飛來三尊供養菩薩。諸尊人物表情真切，面露哀戚。下方繪有獅子、孔雀、白鵝、猿猴、鴛鴦、烏龜等獻花的動物。
作品以豐富的圖樣為其特色，佛陀衣著塗以柔和的彩色暈染，再施加碎金多彩紋樣。此外，諸尊衣服施有多種彩色紋飾，每棵娑羅樹皆開不同的花，配色華麗。
