巴中南龕石窟第16龕如意輪觀音菩薩像
四川巴中
位於內龕。觀音菩薩作思惟狀，盤左腿，右腿屈起坐於仰蓮圓座上。頭戴化佛寶冠，向右微傾，面龐圓潤，眉目清秀。戴七寶項圈，斜披絡腋。觀音六臂，皆佩臂釧、腕釧，左上手伸食指支如意輪，中手平伸，下手持物置於蓮座邊；右上手於頭側托頤，中手於胸前持如意，下手持念珠。下身束長裙，長裙刻弧線衣紋，緊貼身體。有桃形頭光、圓形身光。
龕外左側有唐咸通年間（860～874）妝彩記，稱此龕像是如意輪觀音。此題材於唐代（618～907）中晚期密教興盛時流行於民間，在巴中僅此一龕。唐代不空譯《觀自在如意輪菩薩瑜伽法要》、《觀自在菩薩如意輪念誦儀軌》等經典，敘述了與如意輪觀音有關的修行儀軌和方法，並強調其殊勝功德。
