Letter from Shitao to Tuiweng

與退翁居士尺牘 釋石濤

此書的作者為清（1644～1911）初僧人石濤，乃是寄與退翁居士的函札，在信中，石濤說明自己受他人照顧，未能有所回報，只能寄上祝福，並附贈柿子等物以申謝。
此作用筆甚為迅捷，兼以用墨輕重濃淡對比分明又不失自然，彷彿重演了揮毫時一氣呵成的實況。更重要的是，在其尖鋒並出的書寫中，保有腴潤的線質與寬綽的體勢，不只發揮了如顏真卿草稿與米芾翰札的美學趣味，其如急風驟雨的章法，也呈現了明（1368～1644）末以來行草書寫傳統的影響。
石濤俗姓朱，名若極。法名原濟，字石濤，號大滌子、清湘遺人，自稱苦瓜和尚。清初四大高僧之一，以書畫名世，著作《畫語錄》，立論精闢，頗多禪機，對後世畫壇影響深遠。
