潘西鳳

浙江新昌 竹刻家、篆刻家

字桐岡,號老桐、天姥山樵。生卒年不詳。清代(1644~1911)竹刻家、篆刻家。浙江新昌人。寓居廣陵(今揚州)。約活動於乾隆年間(1736~1795)。精刻竹,以金陵派淺刻見長。尤工筆筒,嘗以天然竹材雕刻成器,返璞歸真,技藝精巧。善篆刻,師良常、王澍,王澍嘗摹《十七帖》,請潘西鳳刻字於竹簡上,稱為竹簡十七帖,精妙絕倫,後收入於清宮。
 並善於竹製刻印。與鄭板橋、李●(魚+單)為友,鄭板橋於《鄭板橋詩鈔》讚其「年年為恨詩書纍,處處逢人勸讀書;試看潘郎精刻竹,胸無萬卷待如何」,視為濮仲謙後第一人。
 佛教作品有色即是空空即是色白文方章,印文採繆篆布局,方正典雅,鈐蓋之後呈現白文,似有傳達空境之意。
