此圖為吳昌碩七十一歲時，有感當時社會動亂而繪。從畫面左上角長款題「赤足行何苦低眉事已非披猖開殺戒悲智見禪機龍漢風雷／劫修羅血肉飛惟當持定力我佛許皈依」，可知其冀望皈依佛教之意；又題「甲寅（1914）十月客有持王鹿公畫佛像／卷來亟摹其意取其神而不肖其貌／欲求其有我在耳吳昌碩時年七十又一」，意在表達畫家作畫的意趣。
全圖在空白背景中畫跣足行走的佛陀，卷髮，面容豐腴，神情端肅，雙手交合於腹前。袈裟以沒骨畫法表現，稍加深淺渲染。衣襬略向後，造成佛向前行走的動勢。長款從左上方直貫而下，與佛像形成均衡的構圖。再於畫底右下角鈐押方印，更使畫面詩書畫印四美合一。
