Manpukuji Temple: Master Yinyuan Longqi

隱元為中國福建省福州人，明（1368～1644）末清（1644～1911）初僧，嗣法於費隱通容。江戶承應三年（1654）應逸然性融之請東渡日本，寬文元年（1661）開創京都宇治萬福寺，為日本黃檗宗開山祖師，諡大光普照國師。作者喜多元規為江戶時代（1615～1868）中期黃檗派肖像畫師，繪有多數禪僧之肖像畫，為黃檗派的代表畫家，活躍於京都、江戶一帶。此圖有寬文十一年的題記，現為日本重要文化財。
畫中描繪隱元晚年之姿，左手持拂子，右手拄杖，為典型的黃檗派半身肖像。使用強勁的線條描繪袈裟，並汲取西洋畫法，以濃淡強調陰影，為黃檗派肖像畫的特徵。頭部使用沒骨技法，不用輪廓線表現形象，直接敷彩畫成，面貌逼真。
