八思巴（¡¦phags pa）為薩迦派第五代祖師。元世祖（1260～1294在位）崇為國師，管理全國佛教及藏族地區事務，又授命創八思巴文，帝賜以「大寶法王」封號。
此作整體為玉質，像之臉、頸部泥金彩繪，面相靜穆慈祥。內著僧坎，外披袒右袈裟，上刻田相紋，紋路鮮明，雙手當胸作說法印。後有頭光及身光，邊緣銅質鎏金，卷草紋地鑲嵌各色寶石。結跏趺坐於束腰須彌座上，座立面飾「十」字紋及聯珠紋。束腰處設一龕，龕作多層透雕蓮葉及蓮花，其間有姿態各異的四童子。
須彌座下為帶足方台，立面飾二龍。台後承接「凸」字形直立式靠背，方格開敞，形似寶座。
